As Much as You Know

Here's a simple wisdom that I think you should keep in mind.

Let's begin: From a start, a person only knows as much as their surroundings.

Say you were born in a cave, and you grew up hunting rabbits and picking fruits and berries. That's what you would know from your surroundings.

Now, say you were born in a big hospital, you were raised in a New York City penthouse, with servants and fancy meals handed to you on a silver platter, (literally) and your parents were rich oil baron billionaires who made absolutely sure that their little popkin had no idea what a financial problem was.

"OK guys, GRAB HIM!!"

"What? Who are-? Argh, get this bag off my head! NO. Don't drag me down the stairs, take the elevator-"

"SHUT UP! You wanna be dragged by your arms or your feet?"

"ARMS!"

"Opposite Day!"

"What the- NO. Argh, OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW-"

A few minutes later.

"Okay, now, you want the back seat, or the trunk?"

...

"Well?"

"Trunk,"

"Trunk it is!"

"But it's Opposite Day!"

"Well, it's two past noon now, and on Opposite Day, noon is midnight, so it ain't Opposite Day no more."

"Back seat! Back seat!"

"Too late, buddy, I'm sorry."

About an hour later.

"We're gonna take the bag off now, okay?"

"Mlfg,"

"Good,"

Bag is taken off.

"Where'm I? Whozzat?"

"This here's Scruff, he's been living out here in this forest hunting rabbits and picking fruits and berries for about twenty years."

"Ah, hi, um, d'you know where th' bathroom is? HEY, where're you going!?"

"We're going home. Now Scruff, take him on back to the cave."

"Cave-? OW, leggo m' arm! Hey! Come back! MOMMY!!!!"

Now, whether Popkin learns anything about anything from Scruff, what happens after this kidnapping should determine something of his true character. If he is able to adapt quickly and learn to accept his new surroundings fast enough to survive, then he's well suited for real life. But if he fights back and resists the entire ten months he is stranded there, he will die like the worthless nothing he is.

So you shouldn't judge people on where they come from, but how they learn and adapt and accept what's going on around them right now. Whether they do good or bad things from their perception is dependent upon how good they are as a person. Remember, in a person's head, no two things are separate, it's all connected together in a single imperfect place: The brain.
